The phase where you try to thwart anyone from encroaching on your business model and try to crush any other innovation that threatens your revenue source. Industries that come to mind: The telecom industry (net neutrality debate and what have you); The music industry (download a song and we’ll sue the crap out you you and all).
I wonder where that tipping point is between innovation and creation — where an entire industry is created — and the protection of that industry through various means. Lobbying, creating patents, protecting those patents are not necessarily ugly, but they can appear that way sometimes. Especially when they become tools to protect what exists and what was created.
that’s what i get for watching PBS for a night, instead of Jaime Oliver.
